In a world too often divided by conflict and misunderstanding, music offers a universal language that transcends borders, cultures, and differences. That’s the core belief behind Make Music. Not War, an inspiring project that brings together young creatives from conflict-affected regions to foster peace and understanding through the power of music and media.
Since its inception in 2015, this initiative has evolved into a transformative journey for hundreds of participants. With the support of Erasmus+ and a shared dream of a more harmonious world, the project has become a beacon of hope for youth across Europe and the Middle East.
Where It All Began
It started with a simple yet powerful idea: that music could bridge divides that seem impossible to cross. In 2017, Make Music. Not War held its first youth exchange in Bremen, Germany, inviting participants from 15 countries affected by conflict.
This wasn’t just a workshop; it was an experience. Young people from diverse backgrounds were encouraged to step away from political narratives and step into a space of collaboration, creativity, and cultural exchange.
From deep discussions in the morning to jam sessions and songwriting in the evening, the participants built more than just songs—they built friendships, trust, and mutual respect.
What We’ve Achieved So Far
Over the years, the project has blossomed into multiple editions, each more impactful than the last. Together, we have:
- Formed international bands to write and record 9 original peace songs.
- Created 3 stunning cover songs reimagined with a message of unity.
- Produced 5 music videos, capturing the essence of collaboration.
- Hosted countless live performances and peace concerts.
These milestones are more than numbers—they are proof of what’s possible when young people unite for a common cause.
The Heart of the Project: Music and Media Teams
At Make Music. Not War, creativity takes center stage. Participants join either the Music Team or the Media Team, each playing a vital role in bringing the project to life:
Music Team
Aspiring musicians form bands based on their preferred genres, from Jazz to Pop, Rock to World Music. Over five days, they create an original peace song from scratch, blending their unique influences into a harmonious masterpiece. Whether performing at local venues or recording in a studio, these young artists use their talents to amplify a message of unity.
Media Team
The Media Team captures the journey through photos, videos, and social media content. From daily reels and stories to directing music videos, they ensure the world sees the magic of Make Music. Not War. Every role, from costume designer to scenographer, contributes to telling a story of hope and collaboration.
Why It Matters
Make Music. Not War is more than a project—it’s a movement. It’s about proving that when young voices come together, they can change the narrative. They can turn tension into understanding, conflict into collaboration, and strangers into bandmates.
Through this initiative, we believe in rewriting the stories of conflict into a future defined by empathy, creativity, and connection.
